Updates on Why Delta Traditional Rulers Stormed Out of Meeting With VP Osinbajo

TVC has provided an update on the reason Delta state traditional rulers stormed out of a meeting with Nigeria's Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.

According to TVC's Sumner Shagari Sambo, the earlier walkout has been resolved and the elders have continued the meeting with Osinbajo.

He said the earlier walkout was led by the Ovie of Uvwie Kingdom in Delta State, HRM Emmanuel Sideso who got angry for not being on the high-table.

As host, he felt slighted for not being on the high-table like Alfred Diete-Spiff & Edwin Clark, he added.

VP Yemi Osinbajo & Gov. Ifeanyi Okowa saved the day by persuading Ovie of Uvwie, HRM Emmanuel Sideso & chiefs to return.

Pastor arrested after prophesying Mugabe’s death

A prominent pastor in Zimbabwe, Patrick Mugadza, was arrested on Monday after prophesying that President Robert Mugabe, 92, will die on Oct. 17, 2017, police and the pastor’s lawyer said.

Mugadza, from the Remnant Pentecostal Church based in the northern town of Kariba, had become famous by holding a one-man demonstration in 2015 against Mugabe, whom he accused of being incompetent.

The Southern African country has seen growing protests against its leader of 37 years, whom critics accuse of ruining the economy, but who nevertheless intends to seek re-election in 2018, when he will be 94 years old.

Mugadza said in December that Mugabe would die on October 17 and urged him to pray hard if he wanted to avoid that fate.

Mugadza was arrested in Harare on charges of undermining the authority of the president, but the charge was then changed to criminal nuisance, his lawyer Gift Mtisi said.

Police spokesperson Charity Charamba confirmed the arrest.

Mugadza is not admitting to the charge against him, “as he is arguing that what he said was given to him by God during a prayer’’, Mtisi said.

Local Government Minister Savior Kasukuwere said the authorities would clamp down on priests raising alarm.

“These prophets are becoming reckless and careless, they need to be put on a leash,’’ he said.

Last year, another pastor, Evan Mawarire, launched a protest movement against Mugabe on social media.

Mugadza’s arrest came as the ruling party prepares to throw a huge party to celebrate Mugabe’s 93rd birthday on Feb. 21.

The pastor is expected to appear in court on Tuesday.

Oh! did aka and anatii just announce a joint album?

Isn’t it crazy how quickly things change in hip hop? In November 2015, Anatii was blurring AKA’s face out of the cover art for the Saga. In November 2016 the duo were together in studio, working on new material together.
Shortly after this studio session, we got to hear their first song together since “The Saga”. “10 Fingers” has had people talking for the whole of January.
We were all hoping that this wouldn’t be the last time these rappers work together and we might just get our wish
According to rumours, they *could* be working on a joint album, but we haven’t seen anybody else reporting this. Guess we’ll just have to wait and see!

Heaven Will Fall if Buhari’s Soldiers Interrupt Our Friday Rally - IPOB

The Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, has warned that, “heaven will fall” should President Muhammadu Buhari order soldiers to interrupt its Friday’s rally in solidarity of the United States, President-elect, Donald Trump.

In a statement by its spokesperson, Emma Powerful, the group explained that the rally was aimed at making the world understand how “resolute and committed we are towards the emancipation, realisation and proclamation of our God given right to live as free men and women in our ancestral land of Biafra.”

Noting that should security operatives attack its members during the rally, “the non violent position of our great movement will be revoked with immediate effect. Our only interest is to exercise our right to peaceful protest and lawful assembly as recognised in law.”

The statement reads, “This IPOB peaceful rally for Trump in Igweocha on Friday the 20th of January 2017 will feature the pictures of our able leader and prophet of our time Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the pictures of those detained illegally alongside him and those of President Donald Trump.

“As usual we shall maintain strict discipline of nonviolence and non-engagement with enemy combatants the Nigerian Army and Police. However we must reiterate that should President Buhari ordered his soldiers to fire at IPOB peaceful protesters, heaven will fall.

“The non-violent position of our great movement will be revoked with immediate effect. Our only interest is to exercise our right to peaceful protest and lawful assembly as recognised in law.

“Should any trigger happy army or police personnel fire at our members, the world should hold Buhari responsible for any outcome. Gov. Nyesom Wike is also hereby reminded of his responsibility to protect the lives of those on peaceful rally.”

NASU, SSANU UniAbuja begin one-week warning strike

Non-academic unions in Nigerian universities on Monday began a one-week warning strike on Monday to protest the non-implementation of its 2009 agreement with the Federal Government.
Mr Yakubu Simon, the Chairman, Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU), University of Abuja chapter, told newsmen in Gwagwalada, FCT, that the strike began after series of meetings with members of the union.
Simon said that the Federal Government needed to implement the 2009 agreement for the good of all Nigerian universities.

“We are on strike because of issues of poor funding of the universities, increase in corruption in the system, shortfall in staff salaries and more.
“ It is a one-week warning strike. We will take our decision at the end of the strike.
“On the issue of corruption, all universities management should find a way of fighting it.
“If a particular person is found wanting and is brought to book, it will serve as a deterrent to others.
“Students also need to help us by reporting any lecturer who always asks for bribe instead of keeping such issue to themselves.
“By doing so, it will help us reduce the issue of corruption on the campus,” he said.

Hmmmm Naira stabilises at N497 to dollar

Where are we going as a Nation? The Naira Today stabilised at N497 to a dollar at the open market just as stakeholders expressed hope in its imminent recovery, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), reports.
The Nigerian currency, however, strengthened against the Pounds Sterling, but weakened against the Euro at the open or parallel market as it closed at N595 and N517, respectively; from N597 and N515 posted on Friday.
At the Bureau De Change (BDC) window, the Naira traded at N399 to a dollar, a rate it would maintain for the rest of the week, while the Pound Sterling and the Euro traded at N604 and N522 respectively.
Trading at the interbank market saw the Naira weakened further at N305.25 to a dollar, from N305 posted on Friday.
Traders at the market said that while the scarcity of the greenback remained visible, there were strong indications that the Naira was on its way to imminent recovery.
NAN reports that since the closure in the sale of forex to BDCs last December, the spike in the Naira exchange rate had continued unabated.
Worried by the development, the Association of Bureau De Change Operators of Nigeria (ABCON) last week pushed for the adoption of a single rate at the market.
Alhaji Aminu Gwadabe, the President ABCON, argued that multiple rates were frustrating efforts at stabilising the Naira and fast tracking its recovery trajectory.
Gwadabe expressed optimism that the resumption in the sale of about N250 million dollars to members of the association this week would help in addressing liquidity challenges in the market.

Chief Justice of Gambia's Supreme Court, Emmanuel Fagbenle told outgoing President, Yahya Jammeh's lawyer that he can't make the order being sought to stop the January 19 inauguration of Adama Barrow in The Gambia.
The Chief Justice also adjourned President Jammeh's election petition hearing until either May or Nov. when judges are expected to form decorum.

Regional leaders had been urging Mr Jammeh to respect the results of the vote, and invited Mr Barrow to address the Africa-France summit in Mali's capital, Bamako on Sunday.

Mr Barrow will now stay in Senegal until Thursday.

Mimiko is planning to sell government vehicles, says APC

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State has accused the outgoing Gov. Olusegun Mimiko of planning to sell some serviceable government vehicles to raise funds for phony expenditure.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Mimiko’s tenure would expire on Feb. 23.
A statement by the Party’s Publicity Secretary, Abayomi Adesanya, in Akure on Monday alleged that the governor decided to sell some government’s vehicles that were “almost new’’.
Adesanya, however, warned prospective buyers not to buy any government’s properties from the outgoing government, its agents or any official of the government.
He said that legitimate steps would be taken by the incoming APC administration to recover all government properties without any refund.
“We want to say unequivocally that anyone, persons or group of persons, that buy any government properties – vehicles, landed property, shares and other things from the outgoing government of Olusegun Mimiko will forfeit such items without refunding their money.
“All efforts will be made to retrieve the properties legitimately with the help of security agencies when APC takes over the reins of power on Feb. 24.
“We are alerting and cautioning the general public and the good people of Ondo State to be conscious not to deal, in any form, with the outgoing government of Olusegun Mimiko and his cronies at this twilight of his tenure.
“We also use this opportunity to once again warn civil servants in the state not to involve in this dastard act as any officer found to be partaker either directly or indirectly will face the law when the new administration takes over.
“We have been inundated with calls and messages by some government officials and concerned citizens about other unwholesome practices by some outgoing political office holders in the state,’’ he said.
Adesanya said that such unwholesome practices would be taken care of by the new government.
NAN reports that the State Commissioner for Information, Mr Kayode Akinmade and the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr Eni Akinsola, did not pick their calls nor respond to text messages on the allegation.

Aregbesola to University Graduates - Dump Your Certificates and Embrace Agriculture

Osun State Governor, Rauf Aregbesola has urged University graduates to abandon their certificates and head to the farm.

DAILY POST reports that Aregbesola gave the charge while delivering a speech at the 6th Convocation Ceremony of Fountain University, Osogbo. He explained that there was no aspect of life that could do without agriculture, saying Nigerian graduates must henceforth stop searching for formal jobs that realistically remained elusive.

“There is need for us , especially our young graduand’s to lead the nation in promoting agriculture as the only realistic surviving alternative to economy. We must not but embrace farming because it is only agriculture that has direct links to all aspects of life.

“Nigeria has grown to the stage through which her food production capacity must be urgently expanded to meet the general needs of the citizenry and as well enhance exportation. The time to enhance productivity has come. We must all embrace productivity. We must produce whatever we desire to consume”, he added.

No fewer than 30 inmates of the Ilesa Prison in Osun State are rounding off their secondary school studies in readiness for tertiary education later in 2017.Controller of Prisons, Osun State Command, Mr. Segun Oluwasemire, gave this hint on tuesday at a ceremony to receive a refurbished and stocked library for the school funded by the Alms Committee of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Osogbo branch.

We hope that sooner than later, the National Open University will grant us a Special Study Centre in the state command for a seamless transition of the products of the secondary school to the university,” the Controller said.
He ascribed the success of the education initiative of the prison authorities in Osun State to the support from the Controller General of Prisons, Mr. Ja’afaru Ahmed, and the intervention by public spirited individuals and organisations that have provided support to the inmates to advance their studies.
“I particularly want to recognise the support from the Alms Project Committee of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Osogbo branch for the upgraded library and to Princess Hope Foundation which is responsible for the provision of additional teachers.” he said.

Comply with court order on El-Zakzaky, Amnesty tells FG

45-day deadline for release ends today
The Federal Government must immediately comply with a High Court order and release the leader of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN) Ibraheem El-Zakzaky and his wife from detention, Amnesty International has said.
El-Zakzaky and his wife, Malama have been in detention without charge for more than a year following a clash between his supporters and the Nigerian military in which lives were lost. The authorities claim the Muslim cleric is being held in “protective custody.”
As the pressure mounts on the government, it is left with the option of releasing El-Zakzaky and his wife to avoid fuelling the allegation of illegal detention. The government may then expedite their prosecution to determine their guilt or innocence.

“The 45-day deadline given for their release expires today. If the government deliberately disregards the orders of its own courts, it will demonstrate a flagrant–and dangerous–contempt for the rule of law,” Interim Director of Amnesty International Nigeria, Makmid Kamara said in a statement.
“El-Zakzaky is being unlawfully detained. This might be part of a wider effort to cover up the gruesome crimes committed by members of the security forces in Zaria in December 2015 that left hundreds dead.”
On 2 December 2016, the Federal High Court in Abuja ruled that El- Zakzaky and Malama should be released within 45 days. The court described their detention, which began in December 2015, as illegal and unconstitutional. The deadline for the court order expires today.
Amnesty International also called on the authorities to release other IMN supporters arrested at the same time as El-Zakzaky and his wife, who likewise remain in detention without charge. The group said its research showed that more than 350 IMN members were killed by security forces between 12 and 14 December 2015 in Zaria, Kaduna State.
The IMN is a Shit’ite religious organisation whose leader, El-Zakzaky, has been a proponent of Shi’a Islam in Nigeria since the 1980s.Processions, demonstrations and other activities organised by the IMN, usually without obtaining the necessary permits and at times blocking public roads, have resulted in confrontation with the Nigerian authorities and strained relations with other communities.
The controversy leading to the arrest of El-Zakzaky, his wife and hundreds of his disciples started with the clash between members of the Islamic group and soldiers late December, 2015, leading to the death of scores of the victims.
Specifically, on December 11, the convoy of the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt. General Tukur Buratai, was on its way to the Zaria depot of the Nigerian Army to review a parade of the 74 Regular Recruits and also later, to pay a courtesy call on the Emir of Zazzau, when it ran into the Islamic group who were on a procession.
The attempts by the COAS armed convoy to disperse the crowd were said to have been rebuffed and this led to a shootout and deaths of some Shiites members. The events that followed the bloody crisis led to the demolition of El-Zakzaky’s residence in Gyelesu area, IMN religious centre in Hussainiya, while the Shiites leader also lost one of his wives, Zeenat and his son, Sayyid Aliyu with several other members of the movement.
Besides, the outcry that followed the clash made the Kaduna State government to set up a commission of Inquiry, led by Justice Muhammad Garba Lawal to unravel the immediate and remote causes of the confrontation and make recommendations on how to avert such an incident in future, and further come out with punishment against anyone or group found guilty.
The Shiites who were enraged at the killings of their members and arrest and detention of El-Zakzaky, wife and other members of the group decided to embark on a series of protests. They boycotted the commission of inquiry set up by the state government, citing “lack of confidence” in members of the panel as one of the reasons for their action.

Wike floats N100m scheme for families of dead, living ex-servicemen

Rivers Governor Nyesom Wike yesterday unveiled a N100 million empowerment scheme to improve the lot of the families of late and living legionnaires in the state. At an event in Port Harcourt, the governor said the move was to appreciate the sacrifices by the Legion to the sustenance of the country.
He commended the military for effectively executing the insurgency fight in the North East axis of the federation, pointing out that the feat would lead to increased peace nationwide.
He lauded President Muhammadu Buhari and the service chiefs for strengthening the armed forces to take up the elements that were threatening the peace of the nation.“The empowerment scheme is to show the families of late ex-servicemen and their living colleagues that we appreciate the sacrifices they made for the country,” Wike stated.
He urged the Nigerian Legion to judiciously manage the fund with a view to ensuring that the wives of the ex-servicemen and other legionnaires benefit by setting up sustainable businesses.
“We don’t want the families they left behind to continue to suffer. I urge the Nigerian Legion to carefully manage the empowerment scheme in a way that the wives of late ex-servicemen and other legionnaires will benefit and set up businesses to sustain themselves,” he added.
The governor called on corporate citizens and privileged Nigerians to take practical steps to appreciate members of the Legion and their families. He urged that the event should go beyond mere yearly ritual, enjoining Nigerians to rededicate themselves to the service of the nation.
Chairman of the Nigerian Legion in the state, Col. Wilberforce Josiah (rtd), commended the governor for his continued support.Prayers were offered for the repose of the late ex-servicemen and the armed forces by military chaplains and Imams.

Troops rescue 58, kill 13 suspected Boko Haram members

Troops of the Operation Lafiya Dole in conjunction with local vigilance group killed 13 suspected insurgents in two villages and rescued 58 from operations in Bomboshe and Sinbaya in Dikwa Local Government Area of Borno at the weekend.
The Director Army Public Relations (DAPR), Brig-Gen. Sani Usman said the result achieved was from the continuous raid, fighting patrols, cordon and search on suspected Boko Haram hideouts in some villages, carried out by troops in conjunction with the civilian JTF.
This is coming as a fleeing member of the sect identified as Alkali, was arrested in Ibadan and is undergoing interrogation by the police. He confessed that he fled Sambisa forest and that some members of the group were in Lagos.

While confirming the arrest, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Adekunle Ajisebutu said the man was under interrogation. Also, the Oodua People’s Congress (OPC), has hailed the Department of State Services for its vigilance, which led to the arrest of suspected Boko Haram members in Lagos State.
Adams praised the DSS and sent out further warnings to criminal elements in the South West and other states with OPC presence that they would not be allowed to fester.Meanwhile, the Northern Interfaith and Religious Organizations for Peace (NIROP), has queried the motive behind Borno State government’s reaction to the arrest and interrogation of the Chairman of Mafa Local Government Council, Alhaji Shettima Lawan, who was caught harbouring Boko Haram fighters.
National Coordinator of the group, Bishop Musa Fomson in Abuja yesterday said it appears that while soldiers were diligently working to round up escaping terrorists, the politicians were covertly subverting the military’s efforts thereby making the work to be worthless.Fomson expressed worry that the action of the state government shows sabotage in the Federal Government’s quest to end terrorism.
He said Nigerians must rise up and condemn any attempt that will encourage the terrorist group from regrouping. He urged the army to remain focus in its mission of moping up remnants of the Boko Haram terrorists.
He said, “We appeal that Nigerians make vigilance their watchword, be their neighbors’ keepers and support the military to expose those that are political Boko Haram as we see this as being strategic to winning the battle and ensuring that the peace in the wake of the terror group’s defeat is not short lived.’’
Meanwhile, the Borno state government has returned 454 “rehabilitated and stabilised children” to two border liberated communities, after spending nine months at the Maiduguri stabilization and rehabilitation centre.
The children were accompanied by their mothers to join their parents and other relations in Bama and Banki.Addressing them yesterday at the stabilization and rehabilitation camp in Maiduguri, Chairman of State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Alhaji Ahmed Satomi, said: “We are not just returning these children and mothers to liberated communities, but on arrival, they will be provided with educational facilities to continue with their educational pursuits and future.”He said another batch of 482 children out of 2, 018 IDPs at the rehabilitation and stabilization centre, will be re-integrated and enrolled into schools in the metropolis.

This is Why Davido subbed D'banj on DJ Jimmy Jatt's 'Orekelewa

Davido might be reacting to D’banj’s interview with Moet Abebe on DJ Jimmy Jatt’s ‘Orekelewa’

There might be some backstory after all for Davido’s shot (he has still not denied this) at D’Banj in the DJ Jimmy Jatt’s song ‘Orekelewa’.
Just around the two minute mark of the song, Davido sings “Who them day ask say what is the kook o, I can tell them say two ni kook o, he still think say na him be the kook o, get outta here he forget say we don carry am go,” which comes off to many as subtle shots at the kokomaster D’banj.
‘Orekelewa’ was produced by the prolific Young Jonn. In an interview with Moet Abebe on Soundcity Radio 98.5 sometime in 2016, the superstar singer addressed the widely circulated story that he was in a N100M debt as well as premiered his last single ‘focus’ on radio. During the course of the interview, D’Banj spoke on his deal with G.O.O.D Music and success of ‘Oliver Twist’ and in the course of the interview, he made utterances that seemed subtle jab at Davido and a number of artistes who had signed international record deals after him.
Listen closely to the podcast especially where he speaks on the success of ‘Oliver’ and G.O.O.D Music deal and let us know what you think:

AT LAST , Julius Agwu returns home

Last week E-Daily reported that Sound Sultan, Lepacious Bose and others posted series of prayers on Instagram for safe return of ace comedian, Julius Agwu who was receiving treatment abroad after allegedly suffering a relapse from a brain surgery he had two years ago and it seems their prayers have been answered fast enough.

The humour merchant who hasn’t recorded any post on his Instagram handle since August of last year, about the same time he was readmitted, made the announcement of his return on Saturday on his handle by simply saying “Awesome God”. Immediately there were torrents of goodwill wishes.

In September of last year, his manager reacted to allegation that he suffered a relapse by saying the comedian only went for a routine check up. “It’s nothing serious. Julius just went for a check up. He was grounded on routine visit to the doctor on Friday because he hadn’t been having enough rest as prescribed by the doctor” he said But the comedian has been missing in action from August to January and with prayers pouring in on regular basis from his colleagues, it is obvious what he went for was more than a routine medical check up. Thank God he’s back. And with a picture of his daughter and the post “Thanks to awesome God” we welcome back the “Crack ya Ribs” master.

New details Reportedly Emerge Regarding kim Kardashian's Robbery Account

Shortly following the arrests of several suspects connected to Kim Kardashian's robbery, France's Le Journal du Dimanchehas published what they report to be Kardashian's account to the Paris authorities who responded to the October 2 incident.
The French newspaper recounts, in Kardashian's translated testimony, what went down in her room at Paris's No Address Hotel when masked men broke in, tied her up, and made off with millions of dollars in jewelry, including a ring from husband Kanye West.
Le Journal du Dimanche reports that Kardashian had parted ways with sister Kourtney Kardashian, and her assistant, Stephanie Sheppard, for the evening and had returned to her room before she heard footsteps in the hallway and called for her bodyguard at 2:56 a.m. The men who then broke into her room were wearing ski masks, with one of them in a Police jacket, and a thief in ski goggles then demanded that Kardashian hand over her ring, worth $4 million, at gunpoint.
"He pointed the gun at me," Kardashian told the police according to Le Journal du Dimanche. "He takes the ring, he has gloves. He asked me where were the jewels and the money. They grabbed me and took me to the lobby. I was in a bathrobe, naked underneath. We then went back to the room and they pushed me onto the bed. And then, they tied me with plastic cords and Scotch [tape] on my hands. Then, they taped my mouth and legs. They took me to my bathroom, specifically my bathtub."
The report lists off the jewelry that was stolen — which included a necklace spelling out the name of her son, Saint, a Rolex, two Cartier bracelets, and more — and states that Kardashian believed the thieves to be "inexperienced" based on how they restrained her.

The robbery is the focus of the promotional material that's been released for the next season of Keeping Up With The Kardashians, which returns in March, as the trailer for the forthcoming premiere includes footage of Kardashian describes the horrific ordeal to her sisters.

26 killed in latest Brazil jail bloodbath

The latest in a string of brutal prison massacres involving suspected gang members in Brazil has killed 26 inmates, most of whom were beheaded, officials said Sunday.
The bloodbath erupted Saturday night in the overcrowded Alcacuz prison in the northeastern state of Rio Grande do Norte.
Similar violence at other jails in Brazil left around 100 inmates dead in early January.
"Twenty-six deaths have been verified," the state's public safety manager, Caio Bezerra, told a news conference. The authorities had earlier estimated around 30 were killed as they gathered bodies and body parts, he said.
Security forces stormed the prison at dawn and restored order after 14 hours of violence, the local authorities said.
Officials said members of two drug gangs clashed violently after coming out of different parts of the prison.
One family member said the authorities did not seem to be doing everything they could -- even after she warned the prison director.
"The (prison) director even said he could not do anything" when told an uprising was looming, said Adriana Feliz, the sister an inmate.
"I told the director they were going to go in and kill everyone in Pavillion 4," she added. "So why didn't they do anything?"
President Michel Temer said on Twitter that the federal government stood ready to provide "all assistance necessary."
Separately, officials in the southern state of Parana said 28 prisoners escaped from a jail in the city of Curitiba after inmates blew up a wall and fired on police.

Gambia's president-elect in Senegal 'until his inauguration'

The inauguration of The Gambia's president-elect Adama Barrow will go ahead on January 19, his spokesman insisted Sunday, as President Yahya Jammeh declared once again he would not step down by then.
Jammeh has refused to cede power after disputing the result of a December 1 election won by Barrow, triggering a crisis that has led the president-elect to appeal for help from west African allies.
"Jammeh's term shall end on the 19th (of January) and the same date president-elect Barrow's term begins. Nothing will change that. He will be sworn in and shall assume office on that date without fail," spokesman Mai Fatty told AFP in Dakar.
Earlier in the day it was confirmed Senegalese President Macky Sall had accepted a request by Liberian leader Ellen Johnson Sirleaf to host Barrow in Dakar until his inauguration.
