Moyes resigns after Sunderland relegation

David Moyes has resigned as Sunderland manager following their relegation from the Premier League, the club announced on Monday.
The 54-year-old Scot succeeded Sam Allardyce last July and oversaw a desperate season that saw Sunderland finish 16 points adrift of safety at the foot of the table.

“I would like to thank (chairman) Ellis Short and the board for giving me the opportunity to manage Sunderland and the fans for always being so passionately supportive of their club,” Moyes said in a statement.

“I wish the players and my successor well in their efforts towards promotion back to the Premier League.”

Sunderland’s relegation to the Championship after 10 years in the top flight was confirmed following a 1-0 home defeat by Bournemouth last month.

Moyes informed Sunderland officials of his decision to leave at a meeting in London on Monday.

His departure completes a sorry few weeks for the former Everton manager, who has been charged by the Football Association after jokily threatening to “slap” a female reporter.

It is his third successive short-lived stint at a club, following previous disappointments at Manchester United, where he lasted just 10 months, and Real Sociedad.

“I pursued the services of David Moyes for a considerable period prior to his appointment last summer, which makes the announcement of his departure difficult for everyone concerned,” said Sunderland chairman Ellis Short.

“Having worked tirelessly throughout the campaign to avoid relegation from the Premier League, David has chosen to leave the club without compensation, which is testament to his character.

“In the days ahead we will take some time for reflection and then focus on recruitment and pre-season as we prepare for our Championship campaign. We wish David well in the future.”

Moyes was dissatisfied with Sunderland’s close-season transfer dealings and set the tone for their campaign early in the season when he said he was preparing for a relegation battle.

Sunderland sank into the bottom three in September and did not move off the foot of the table from January onwards, finishing the campaign with only six wins to their name.

An incident involving Moyes and BBC radio reporter Vicki Sparks occurred after a 0-0 draw against Burnley on March 18, but only came to light last month.

After taking exception to a question, Moyes waited until the interview had ended before telling Sparks: “It was getting a wee bit naughty at the end there, so just watch yourself.

“You still might get a slap even though you’re a woman. Careful the next time you come in.”

He subsequently apologised, but was charged by the FA on April 26.

Lagos to go dark for 5 days

The Eko Electricity Distribution Company on Monday announced that many parts of the economic capital of Nigeria will experience total blackout for 5 days.

EKEDC spokesman, Godwin Idemudia, said in a statement that the outage would affect Ikoyi, Victoria Island and parts of Lagos Island from Wednesday to Sunday.

Idemudia said that the outage was to enable maintenance crew from the Transmission Company of Nigeria address technical and maintenance issues at Alagbon transmission station.

“We want to inform our esteem customers that from Wednesday, May 24 to Sunday, May 28, there will be an outage within Ikoyi, Victoria Island and parts of Lagos Island.

“This is to enable TCN maintenance crew to resolve some technical issues within Alagbon transmission stations,’’ EKEDC said.

The EKEDC spokesman said that the company highly regretted any inconveniences caused by the five-day outage.

He promised that supply would be restored to the affected areas as soon as the maintenance was successfully completed

Trump Slammed Michelle Obama For Not Covering Hair In Saudi Arabia, But...

Donald Trump’s old tweets keep coming back to haunt him. This time, they followed him to Saudi Arabia, during his first trip overseas as President of the United States.
In 2015, half a year before he officiaannounced he was running for president, Trump criticized then-First Lady of the United States Michelle Obama for not wearing a headscarf over her hair during a trip to Saudi Arabia.
But when Trump and his family visited the Islamic nation this weekend, people noticed that his wife Melania Trump and daughter Ivanka Trump did the exact same thing.
Melania Trump wore loose-fitting conservative outfits to the Islamic nation, much like Obama did during her 2015 trip to Saudi Arabia. Trump was seen wearing a black Stella McCartney jumpsuit covered most of her arms and legs, and was accentuated with a gold belt and chain-link necklace. Ivanka Trump wore a long-sleeved floral dress that reached above the ankles.

Once photos of the Trumps in Saudi surfaced online, people were quick to dig up the president’s old tweet and point out his hypocrisy.

Saudia Arabia has a strict dress code that requires Saudi women to wear long black robes, known as abayas, and to cover their hair in public. However, foreign diplomats or politicians aren’t required to cover their hair during visits to the country.

Middle East politics expert Christopher Davidson told NBC News that it’s “perfectly tasteful and appropriate” for prominent women, including the Trumps and Mrs. Obama, to forego headscarves during their visits to the kingdom.
“We’ve now had a number of prominent Western women who have visited Saudi in recent months, Angela Merkel and Theresa May,” Davidson said. “Neither of them covered their hair and they both wore trouser suits.”
Journalist Joyce Karam also pointed out that several other First Ladies and female American politicians have visited the country sans headscarf in the past, including Hillary Clinton, Barbara Bush and Laura Bush.
(Laura Bush briefly wore a head scarf, which was gifted to her, during a trip to Saudi Arabia, though she did not wear it for the entire visit, according to The Guardian.)

Despite EU restriction, Med-View continues operations on Lagos-London route

Restriction of its aircraft into European Union (EU) member countries notwithstanding, Med-View Airlines Plc yesterday confirmed the running of its Lagos-London-Lagos operations where it operated schedule flights to London Gatwick Airport.
The airline, using a wet-leased Boeing 747 aircraft, left the
Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, Lagos with about 240 passengers at 1:30p.m.
The airline said this development dismissed the claim that they had been banned in Europe.
The Guardian learnt that the restriction was due to the delay by the airline to have its Boeing767 aircraft audited for international operations in accordance with the EU airspace rules.
The prohibition is, however, restricted to Med-View designated plane and not the airline’s entire operations.
Chief Operating Officer of Med-View, Lukman Animashaun told reporters that: “You have seen for yourself that our Lagos-London operation is not in anyway hampered,” dismissing anxiety among some passengers that had already booked their tickets.
Intending passengers had for the past three days besieged the offices of the airline nationwide to verify the authenticity of the report about EU restriction. They were, however glad when they learnt that the London operation was not affected.
Animashaun said the London route was a plus for international passengers in Nigeria.
He added that Med-View Airline stabilised travel fares on the Lagos-London route to the extent that, “other airlines on the route towed this line so as to retain their passengers.”
He explained that the B747 aircraft with 460 passengers capacity was introduced in December to take advantage of the heavy traffic during the peak period.
“In the coming months, we would introduce the wet-leased B777 aircraft from an EU state into the route, and the B747 would be withdrawn to the Jeddah route for Hajj operations,” Animashaun said.

SAS sniper 'shot an ISIS jihadi dead from 1.5miles away' using the world's most powerful rifle

An SAS sniper is said to have shot dead an ISIS jihadi from 1.5miles away using the world's most powerful rifle.
It took three whole seconds for the bullet to reach its target - the throat of an Islamic State terrorist in the Iraqi city of Mosul.
The British marksman was using a CheyTac M200 Intervention gun which is produced in South Carolina and retails at $13,800 (£10,500) and can vaporise a person's organs from 2,500m.
As the terrorist was leaving a burned-out building two weeks ago, the SAS gunman is said to have pulled the trigger, registering one of the most difficult kills in the regiment's history.
Widely regarded as the most powerful rifle on the planet in its class, it has a working range of up to 3,000m and holds the record for the world's longest shot.
The soldiers is said to have only taken a single shot to take down his man, living up to the gun manufacturer CheyTac's motto of 'Make every shot count'.
A source told The Star on Sunday: 'It was a classic counter-sniper operation. The ISIS gunman was moving all the time to get into the best position to get a kill.
'It was like a game of cat-and-mouse and at one point the SAS almost gave up, believing that the terrorist had gone to ground.
'Just as the light was beginning to fade the gunman moved into what he thought was a safe location and lifted his rifle up into his shoulder before the SAS shot him dead.'

Presidency - People Have Paid Pastors And Bishops To Pray For Buhari's Death

Lauretta Onochie, Personal Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on new media has accused politicians of employing spiritual means to ensure that her Principal dies.

Onochie made the disclosure via her Facebook page. She wrote, “There must be a reason why some members of the political elite in Nigeria do not want to see President Muhammadu Buhari in power. They rigged him out of elections in the past and now that Nigerians overpowered them with the support of the card reader, they want him dead.

“In 2015, when it was obvious the electorates had their eyes set on him, they scammed President Jonathan to postpone the election and to further empty the Nigerian treasury so they could ‘buy’ more electorates.

“But they knew Nigerians were not ready to be bought so they pocketed the campaign loot. Those who took part in the scamming of ex-President Jonathan, are being asked to cough up and the junkiest of them all, is cursing and swearing because he is being held accountable.

“Transition was a scam. Financial books were cooked. They tried to cover up their financial wickedness and recklessness against this nation. They hired some school dropouts, products of their 16 years of mis-governance across the nation, to try to disrupt the nation.

“And then they hired red, green, blue, and all shades of media outfits to unleash a coordinated attack on his government. Bravely, he soldiers on.

“They travelled as far as Niger Republic, India, etc. and in vain, they engaged the services of marabouts and soothsayers (mere men), to their own disappointments. Pastors and bishops (mere men), whose unholy services were engaged to pray for his death, resorted to attacking him once they have prayed and he did not die.”

APC Gov Tambuwal Visits Fayose in Ekiti, Heaps Praises on Him

Sokoto State's Governor Aminu Tambuwal during the weekend paid a visit to Governor Fayose of Ekiti state and commended him for the good job he is doing in the state.

According to Fayose’s Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Idowu Adelusi, said Tambuwal was in Ekiti to attend the funeral of the late military governor of the old Western Region, Gen. Adeyinka Adebayo (retd.)

Tambuwal praised Fayose for transforming Ekiti state.

“I am a regular visitor to Ekiti State and I can see that a lot of transformation has taken place in Ekiti under the leadership of Governor Ayodele Fayose.

“A lot of projects have been embarked upon and that shows the commitment of the governor to making the living standard of the people better. He loves his people and he is working for them.

'B.I.G. forever!' Diddy honors the late Biggie Smalls and brings his son CJ Wallace onstage the BBMAs

Sean 'Diddy' Combs led a standing ovation for his late 'friend, brother, and artist' Biggie Smalls on what would have been his 45th birthday at Sunday's Billboard Music Awards.
In 1993, the 47-year-old Bad Boy Records mogul signed the rap legend (born Christopher Wallace), who sold 25M records before being gunned down at the tender age of 24 in 1997.
'It all started with the Notorious B.I.G.,' said the three-time Grammy winner in a chic hat selected by stylist Derek S. Roche.
His Ready to Die album, his Life After Death album - classics. He changed the game of hip-hop forever. Biggie was the best rapper I ever had a chance to work with. Watching him and seeing him work is something that words can't explain.'
The Harlem-born hip-hop star concluded: 'Happy birthday, Biggie. B.I.G. forever!'
Diddy also gave a shout-out to Biggie's mother Voletta Wallace and then brought his son, CJ Wallace, onstage the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
'I know my father is looking down on all of us tonight and all of this love and support,' the 20-year-old actor-rapper - whose mother is R&B belter Faith Evans - said.

‘We deserve it,’ said Cristiano Ronaldo, who scored the first goal in a 2-0 win inside two minutes. ‘This success tastes really good, and even sweeter to do it in the last week of the season.

Zinedine Zidane was given the bumps by his jubilant players and he saluted his squad when mobbed by reporters on the final whistle.

We came to raise capital for our poor parents —13-yr-olds who fled Abuja for Lagos

Two teenagers, who fled their parents’ home in Abuja for Lagos because of what they described as their parents’ poor conditions, have been re-united with their families.
The 13-year-old boys were rescued by the operatives of Rapid Response Squad, RRS, of the Lagos State Police Command last Monday, after they alighted from an Abuja bus at Ojodu Berger, Lagos. The squad Commander, Assistant Commissioner Olatunji Disu, who confirmed the incident, said the teenagers were sighted by the officers wandering around Ojodu-Berger before they were invited for questioning. The children had initially lied to the officers that they were kidnapped and blindfolded before they were driven to Lagos by their abductors, from who they escaped. The officers later moved the boys to the RRS Headquarters, while investigations into their claims were launched. Their parents, who have been looking for the boys in Abuja since Sunday, May 14, were shocked when they were contacted and told their children were in the custody of RRS in Lagos. It took three days of questioning before the boys opened up, confessing that they left Abuja because of their parents’ poor conditions. According to one of them, “we noticed that our parents were suffering to take care of us. We decided to come to Lagos and work for some time. Whatever we are able to raise in six months, we will handover to our parents for them to start business. “We realised that the hardship was too much and that we would be helping them if we leave our families in Abuja in search of better opportunities in Lagos. The other said: “We combined my N4,200 savings with his (the other boy) N500 to transport ourselves to Lagos. We were already in Lagos before we realised that we were simply being stupid. “We were wandering about when the officer invited us for questioning.” The RRS Commander, who received the parents of the teenagers on their fifth day in custody, appealed to parents and guardians to monitor and take good care of their wards. The boys were re-united with their parents on Friday after they promised not to repeat such action.

North Korea declares medium-range missile ready for deployment

North Korea on Monday declared its medium-range Pukguksong-2 missile ready for deployment after a weekend test, the latest step in its quest to defy UN sanctions and develop an intercontinental rocket capable of striking US targets.
The state-run Korean Central News Agency said the North's leader Kim Jong-Un oversaw Sunday's launch, which sparked a fresh chorus of international condemnation and threats of tougher sanctions.
The missile tested was the Pukguksong-2, which uses solid fuel that allows for immediate firing, KCNA said.
So far almost all the North's missiles have been liquid-fuelled, which have to be painstakingly filled with propellant before launch, while solid fuel missiles can be fired far more rapidly.
That would dramatically shorten the time available for any attempt to intervene and prevent a launch, requiring any such decision to be taken much more quickly.
Seoul military officials have previously said the Pukguksong-2 -- a land-based version of Pyongyang's submarine-launched weapon -- uses solid fuel.
Kim said "with pride" that the Pukguksong-2 was a "very accurate" missile and a "successful strategic weapon", KCNA said, adding he "approved the deployment of this weapon system for action".
The launch "completely verified" the reliability and accuracy of the device, and its late-stage warhead guidance system, KCNA said, adding the test results were "perfect".
Images carried by the Rodong Sinmun -- the official mouthpiece of the ruling Workers' Party of Korea -- showed a smiling Kim clapping surrounded by his aides in an outdoor observation post as the missile shot up into the air.
It also had several pictures of the Earth said to have been taken from the rocket from space -- the first such pictures released by the North.
Kim "said he was very happy to see pictures of the Earth taken by our rocket and that the world looks beautiful", KCNA said, adding that he ordered the missile to be "rapidly mass-produced".
- UN emergency talks -
The missile, which was described by Washington as medium-range, was fired from Pukchang in South Pyongan province and travelled about 500 kilometres (310 miles) before landing in the Sea of Japan, according to the South's armed forces.
The rocket used a cold-launch system, KCNA said.
The technology uses compressed gas to propel a missile upwards before its engine ignites in mid-air. It is considered safer and also makes it easier to hide the launch location.
A spokesman for Seoul's Joint Chiefs of Staff told reporters that South Korean and US intelligence authorities "assess that North Korea secured meaningful data in advancing the reliability of its missile technology through yesterday's missile launch".
But he added: "Our position is that the stable re-entry of the warhead needs more verification."
The US, South Korea and Japan sharply denounced the launch and jointly requested an emergency meeting of the United Nations Security Council, which will be held Tuesday.
The launch came just one week after the North fired a Hwasong-12 intermediate-range missile, which according to Pyongyang was capable of carrying a "heavy" nuclear warhead".
Analysts said that at 4,500 kilometres the Hwasong-12 had a longer range than any previous ballistic missile launched by the North, putting US bases on the Pacific island of Guam within reach -- and that it could serve as a platform to develop a long-range ICBM.
Pyongyang has long had missiles that can reach targets across South Korea and Japan but is accelerating efforts to develop an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) capable of delivering a nuclear warhead to the continental United States -- something President Donald Trump has vowed "won't happen".
The launches, and a threatened sixth nuclear test, have fuelled tension with the Trump administration, which has warned that military intervention was an option under consideration, sending fears of conflict spiralling.
But so far Washington has opted for sanctions and diplomatic pressure, while looking to China, the North's closest ally, to help rein in Pyongyang.
Seoul's foreign ministry slammed the "reckless and irresponsible" weekend firing as "throwing cold water on the hope and longing of the new government and the international community" for denuclearisation and peace on the Korean peninsula.
South Korea's new President Moon Jae-In has previously taken a more conciliatory line towards Pyongyang than his conservative predecessors, but has reacted strongly to the latest two missile tests.

I am not a lesbian – Former Big Brother housemate, Beverly Osu

Former Big Brother Africa housemate, Beverly Osu, has dismissed rumours that she is a lesbian.
In an interview with Sunday Scoop, Osu who some time ago posted a picture of her kissing another girl, stated that “people would be commenting on issues they don’t have the facts of”.
“Ordinarily, I don’t even respond to things like this because I am way too busy for that.
“There are so many issues besetting this nation that we should be focused on instead of who Beverly kissed.
“If you must know though, the video I posted on Instagram was from a music video shoot. I have grown a thick skin towards these things.
“Many people would be commenting on issues that they don’t have the facts of and I find that very laughable”‎, she added.
