Updates on Why Delta Traditional Rulers Stormed Out of Meeting With VP Osinbajo

TVC has provided an update on the reason Delta state traditional rulers stormed out of a meeting with Nigeria's Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.

According to TVC's Sumner Shagari Sambo, the earlier walkout has been resolved and the elders have continued the meeting with Osinbajo.

He said the earlier walkout was led by the Ovie of Uvwie Kingdom in Delta State, HRM Emmanuel Sideso who got angry for not being on the high-table.

As host, he felt slighted for not being on the high-table like Alfred Diete-Spiff & Edwin Clark, he added.

VP Yemi Osinbajo & Gov. Ifeanyi Okowa saved the day by persuading Ovie of Uvwie, HRM Emmanuel Sideso & chiefs to return.

Pastor arrested after prophesying Mugabe’s death

A prominent pastor in Zimbabwe, Patrick Mugadza, was arrested on Monday after prophesying that President Robert Mugabe, 92, will die on Oct. 17, 2017, police and the pastor’s lawyer said.

Mugadza, from the Remnant Pentecostal Church based in the northern town of Kariba, had become famous by holding a one-man demonstration in 2015 against Mugabe, whom he accused of being incompetent.

The Southern African country has seen growing protests against its leader of 37 years, whom critics accuse of ruining the economy, but who nevertheless intends to seek re-election in 2018, when he will be 94 years old.

Mugadza said in December that Mugabe would die on October 17 and urged him to pray hard if he wanted to avoid that fate.

Mugadza was arrested in Harare on charges of undermining the authority of the president, but the charge was then changed to criminal nuisance, his lawyer Gift Mtisi said.

Police spokesperson Charity Charamba confirmed the arrest.

Mugadza is not admitting to the charge against him, “as he is arguing that what he said was given to him by God during a prayer’’, Mtisi said.

Local Government Minister Savior Kasukuwere said the authorities would clamp down on priests raising alarm.

“These prophets are becoming reckless and careless, they need to be put on a leash,’’ he said.

Last year, another pastor, Evan Mawarire, launched a protest movement against Mugabe on social media.

Mugadza’s arrest came as the ruling party prepares to throw a huge party to celebrate Mugabe’s 93rd birthday on Feb. 21.

The pastor is expected to appear in court on Tuesday.

Isn’t it crazy how quickly things change in hip hop? In November 2015, Anatii was blurring AKA’s face out of the cover art for the Saga. In November 2016 the duo were together in studio, working on new material together.

Heaven Will Fall if Buhari’s Soldiers Interrupt Our Friday Rally - IPOB

The Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, has warned that, “heaven will fall” should President Muhammadu Buhari order soldiers to interrupt its Friday’s rally in solidarity of the United States, President-elect, Donald Trump.

In a statement by its spokesperson, Emma Powerful, the group explained that the rally was aimed at making the world understand how “resolute and committed we are towards the emancipation, realisation and proclamation of our God given right to live as free men and women in our ancestral land of Biafra.”

Noting that should security operatives attack its members during the rally, “the non violent position of our great movement will be revoked with immediate effect. Our only interest is to exercise our right to peaceful protest and lawful assembly as recognised in law.”

The statement reads, “This IPOB peaceful rally for Trump in Igweocha on Friday the 20th of January 2017 will feature the pictures of our able leader and prophet of our time Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the pictures of those detained illegally alongside him and those of President Donald Trump.

“As usual we shall maintain strict discipline of nonviolence and non-engagement with enemy combatants the Nigerian Army and Police. However we must reiterate that should President Buhari ordered his soldiers to fire at IPOB peaceful protesters, heaven will fall.

“The non-violent position of our great movement will be revoked with immediate effect. Our only interest is to exercise our right to peaceful protest and lawful assembly as recognised in law.

“Should any trigger happy army or police personnel fire at our members, the world should hold Buhari responsible for any outcome. Gov. Nyesom Wike is also hereby reminded of his responsibility to protect the lives of those on peaceful rally.”

NASU, SSANU UniAbuja begin one-week warning strike

Non-academic unions in Nigerian universities on Monday began a one-week warning strike on Monday to protest the non-implementation of its 2009 agreement with the Federal Government.

Mr Yakubu Simon, the Chairman, Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU), University of Abuja chapter, told newsmen in Gwagwalada, FCT, that the strike began after series of meetings with members of the union.

Simon said that the Federal Government needed to implement the 2009 agreement for the good of all Nigerian universities.

“We are on strike because of issues of poor funding of the universities, increase in corruption in the system, shortfall in staff salaries and more.

“ It is a one-week warning strike. We will take our decision at the end of the strike.

“On the issue of corruption, all universities management should find a way of fighting it.

“If a particular person is found wanting and is brought to book, it will serve as a deterrent to others.

“Students also need to help us by reporting any lecturer who always asks for bribe instead of keeping such issue to themselves.

“By doing so, it will help us reduce the issue of corruption on the campus,” he said.

Hmmmm Naira stabilises at N497 to dollar

Where are we going as a Nation? The Naira Today stabilised at N497 to a dollar at the open market just as stakeholders expressed hope in its imminent recovery, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), reports.

The Nigerian currency, however, strengthened against the Pounds Sterling, but weakened against the Euro at the open or parallel market as it closed at N595 and N517, respectively; from N597 and N515 posted on Friday.

At the Bureau De Change (BDC) window, the Naira traded at N399 to a dollar, a rate it would maintain for the rest of the week, while the Pound Sterling and the Euro traded at N604 and N522 respectively.

Trading at the interbank market saw the Naira weakened further at N305.25 to a dollar, from N305 posted on Friday.

Traders at the market said that while the scarcity of the greenback remained visible, there were strong indications that the Naira was on its way to imminent recovery.

NAN reports that since the closure in the sale of forex to BDCs last December, the spike in the Naira exchange rate had continued unabated.

Worried by the development, the Association of Bureau De Change Operators of Nigeria (ABCON) last week pushed for the adoption of a single rate at the market.

Alhaji Aminu Gwadabe, the President ABCON, argued that multiple rates were frustrating efforts at stabilising the Naira and fast tracking its recovery trajectory.

Gwadabe expressed optimism that the resumption in the sale of about N250 million dollars to members of the association this week would help in addressing liquidity challenges in the market.
